The State of Things

I want to know the current state of things
But I don't want to know of pain and violence

Which is to say, I hate this side of humanity
Which is to say, I hate you
Which is to say, I hate myself
Which is to say, I'm done
Which is to say, I wish for some other reality
Which is to say, goodbye

But I don't want to say goodbye
I can't say goodbye
And even if nothing changes,
I’m just proud of myself
For being able to say
What I want and what I don’t want.
